Investor Guide: PAN (Permanent Account Number) - How to Apply?

  • Form 49A: For allotment of new PAN
  • "Request for New PAN Card and/or Changes or Correction in PAN data" Form: For correction of PAN details/issue of duplicate PAN card
How to get the Application forms
  • Free Download from TIN website (www.tin-nsdl.com) or lncome Tax Department's website (www.incometaxindia.gov.in) or
  • Obtain free of cost from TIN Facilitation Centre and PAN Centre or
  • Photocopies of blank forms can be used
Processing Fees
  • Rs. 94 inclusive of service tax
  • Rs. 744 inclusive of service tax, if the PAN card is to be dispatched at foreign address
How to Apply?
  • Form to be filled in BLOCK LETTERS, BLACK INK and in ENGLISH only
  • Name should be written in full. Abbreviations are not allowed
  • Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) as required under Rule 114{4) of the Income Tax Rules. List of documents (copy) acceptable as POl/POA is provided as part of instructions along with the application form
  • Name mentioned in the application form should match exactly with name available in POl/POA
  • In case of Individual applicants, POA should be given for residential address
  • Individual applicants should affix recent colour photograph (Size 3.5cm X 2.5cm)
  • Sign only in the space provided for signature (in black ink) without touching side of the box
  • Submit form & documents to any TIN Facilitation Centre and PAN Centre of your choice (Click Here to view the list of TIN Facilitation Centres serviced by Karvy Data Management Services)
  • Read guidelines & instructions attached to the form or visit TIN website for detailed instructions before applying
  • If applied online through NSDL TIN website (www.tin-nsdl.com), submit documents directly to NSDL at 3rd floor, Sapphire Chambers, Near Baner Telephone Exchange. Baner, Pune - 411 045.
Additional Instructions for reprint of PAN card or corrections/changes in existing PAN card
  • Submit proof of PAN (PAN card or PAN allotment letter issued by Income Tax Department if available)
  • Proof of change requested (POCR) : Submit document containing the correct details for which corrections are required. For Example : if change is requested in Father's Name or date of birth, document submitted as POCR should be in applicant's name and contain Father's Name or date of birth as filled up in the application form
  • In case communication as well as other address is mentioned, submit POA for both the addresses.
Track Status of PAN Application
Use 15-digit acknowledgement number for tracking the status of application
  • Check status at TIN website - www.tin-nsdl.com
  • SMS to 53030 by typing - 'PAN' (space) 15 digit acknowledgement no.
  • In case of online application. PAN will be intimated by email also

  • It is suggested to register your PAN to view Form 26AS (Annual Tax Credit Statement) after the PAN is allotted.
